Crown

Crown

Overview:

  • A crown is a laboratory created restoration for severely damaged tooth. The crown is made of an alloy containing a noble metal (platinum, gold, or palladium) which is fused to a porcelain shell giving the tooth a natural appearance while maintaining corrosion resistance and providing durability.

What to Expect:

  • A two visit procedure is required for crowns. On the first visit, the dentist will shape the tooth to be covered and install a temporary crown. An impression is made and sent to the lab. On the second visit, the Dentist will attach the permanent crown.
  • In some cases crowns can be fabricated in-office during one visit. There are a variety of crown materials to choose from.
  • If a tooth is cracked or there is a large cavity then crowns are typically needed.
